Gelli plates are really fun and easy to use, and they’ve revolutionized the world of monoprinting! They mimic gelatin (yes, like your mom’s Jello salad), which is a surprisingly good surface for spreading and transferring ink. Learn the basic techniques to use with gelli plates and you’ll be gelli printing for years to come! You will learn how to create endless variations in pattern, texture, and color, print with found objects, transfer images, and so much more! You will have the opportunity to try all of these techniques in class, as you work with 8” x 10” plates and a variety of paper. Seasonal botanical images and textures will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own plant materials, glossy magazines, stencils, or objects with interesting shapes and textures (think mesh nets, lace, leaves and flowers, keys, or anything that is essentially flat) to create your personalized patterns and images.
Your materials fee covers ink, paper, tools, and an 8” x 10” gelli plate to bring home. For additional class information about tools, equipment, supplies, please see the link in the online class listing. Wear casual clothing that can get dirty, and bring an apron or smock.
