Create a unique three-dimensional mosaic sculpture using colorful mosaic tile, shimmering glass, and architectural cement. You'll begin by building a cement form using repurposed materials to create a one-of-a-kind shape of your own design. Then cover the surface with a colorful mosaic using the wide assortment of materials supplied in class.
You'll learn to use a variety of cutting tools and mosaic materials, including ceramic, glass, tile, and more, and will gain a solid foundation in the full process. You will learn how to select surfaces for indoor vs. outdoor use, choose and apply adhesives, and how to grout and seal your project for a professional, weather resistant finish!
Come prepared with an idea for your sculptural form (turtle, mushroom, teacup, beach ball, bird, etc.) and bring a drawing or photo to work from. Between the first and second weekend, you'll have time to purchase any additional materials if your project calls for a specific color or type that isn’t available in class (think a chili pepper sculpture requiring lots of red!) If necessary, Jennifer will guide you on what is best to use for your additional materials, and where to find them locally.
You'll have time in class to complete a mosaic sculpture roughly the size of a basketball. All tools and materials are provided. Class size is limited, so register early. No experience necessary.
Please bring a large cardboard box to transport your project home to dry between sessions.
