Learn to use fabric in a completely new way to create beautiful, complex, quilted fiber art. You will learn to use small pieces of fabric as if they are dabs of paint, combining and arranging them to create an image, then quilt your piece using free-motion techniques. In some cases, you may use fabric printed with images to create a collage effect. Heather will guide you as you learn to use raw-edged fabric, manipulate your design, and create depth and texture with color, layers, and varied quilting thickness. You will have time to create a small 18" x 24" quilted artwork during class.
Please bring to class 1 to 3 images to use as inspiration, and three fat quarters of printed fabric with bold designs. Your materials fee will cover all of the other materials you will need in class.
This workshop is open to students who have completed Heather’s Drawing With Thread: Explore Free-Motion Quilting class, or have experience with free-motion quilting. Students must have prior sewing experience on a sewing machine, understand how to use a sewing machine, and have basic sewing skills. You will use the sewing machines that are provided in class. Please bring your lunch!
The classroom is a great space to create and sew, with lots of space to spread out, plenty of Bernina sewing machines, large cutting tables, ironing boards and irons, great music, good company, as well as basic sewing supplies and tools to help you reach your sewing goals.
