When you use a sewing machine you usually sew in a straight line. What if you could sew like a figure skater, with swoops, curls, and floral designs? Learn the free flowing and structureless feeling of sewing without feed dogs, and how to make your machine cooperate while making your swirls and swoops. You’ll have plenty of time to practice until you feel comfortable with a variety of patterns and shapes, and have time to create two quilted designs roughly 18” x 18” that may be used to create a pillow cover, become a quilted art piece, or add to clothing as decoration. In order to participate students must have prior sewing experience on a sewing machine, understand how to use a sewing machine, and have basic sewing skills. You will use the sewing machines that are provided in class. Your materials fee covers all of the supplies and materials, printed resources, and a library of shapes and designs that can be used for practicing free-motion quilting at home! Please bring your lunch. The classroom is a great space to create and sew, with lots of space to spread out, plenty of Bernina sewing machines, large cutting tables, ironing boards and irons, great music, good company, as well as basic sewing supplies and tools to help you reach your sewing goals.
