Painting the Spectrum of Wholeness

Join Majio in a painting experience to explore wholeness beyond our cultural training. We tend to perceive contrast instead of complement. An example is how we interpret the masculine/feminine energies of Yin/Yang as a spectrum of differences. They can be seen as enhancing each other rather than in conflict. In this workshop, you will explore habits of separating and dividing things as you paint with acrylics on large-format industrial paper. Various markings on tissue paper for layers of collage on the painting substrate will further investigate aspects of the paradox of wholeness and parts. The invitation is to set up and hold the space between dichotomies or polarities. The resulting uncomfortable place in the creative process is the key to innovation. You will utilize Leonardo de Vinci’s principles of innovation: connection, curiosity, and embracing uncertainty to guide the process. Through various painting and texture tools, you will explore this art-practice and encourage painting conventions to fall away. You will learn that reactionary habits are not the answer as you invite a broad context that develops trust in your innovative potential.
Your materials fee covers large industrial paper substrate, acrylic paint with various brushes and paint application tools, tissue paper for marking with various stencils and texture templates to apply to paintings.
All skill levels are welcome! Space is limited so please register early. Bring lunch, and something to drink.
