Road Trips, RVs & Van Life: Off-Grid Travel and Boondocking: Stay Self-Sufficient and Confident
ID :

« back to classes page
Boondocking, better known as off-grid travel, offers freedom, flexibility, and access to some of the most beautiful places you can reach in an RV or van, but they also require a different level of preparation and decision-making. This class focuses on how to travel off-grid safely, responsibly, and with confidence, without feeling overwhelmed or underprepared. Join Kay for a practical, real-world look at what off-grid travel actually involves, how to manage your resources, and how experienced travelers make good decisions when conditions change. This class emphasizes preparedness, situational awareness, and realistic expectations so you can enjoy off-grid stays rather than worry through them.
This class includes real-world examples, exploring various apps and online maps, and downloadable checklists you can reference before and during off-grid trips. You will receive a digital resource booklet with lists of tools, apps, maps, and checklists, along with a fillable worksheet to help assess readiness and plan off-grid stays.
You’ll leave with a clear understanding of what it takes to successfully boondock, how to manage your resources with confidence, and how to make calm, informed decisions while traveling off the grid.
This class covers:
What off-grid travel and boondocking really mean, and when it makes sense to do it
How to find legal, safe, and appropriate places to boondock
Water management and conservation strategies for extended stays
Power planning: batteries, solar, generators, and realistic usage expectations
Waste and tank management when you’re off the grid
Safety considerations, weather awareness, and site selection
How to assess when to stay put, move on, or change plans
Common off-grid mistakes, and how to avoid them
