Field trips, road trips, scavenger hunts, and plenty of hands-on activities put your science skills to work. Develop scientific observation skills through scientific drawing. Learn random sample data gathering skills as you build and work with a quadrat (a frame used to isolate and study the distribution of an item over a large area). Learn to identify organisms and the adaptations necessary to live in local environments. Explore diverse central coast ecosystems and get a first hand look at the work being done by scientists and conservationists on five diverse field trips throughout the Monterey Bay Area.
Visit San Vicente Redwoods Preserve, part of the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County, where you’ll witness a forest that’s actively rebounding from recent wildfire, as well as critical habitat for many regionally significant species of wildlife. You will also visit the Santa Cruz Natural History Museum, Henry Cowell, Wilder Ranch, Point Lobos, and Cabrillo’s Planetarium. At each location you will enjoy activities, tours, field walks, and gain unique historic and scientific knowledge specific to each location!

Campers will travel in Cabrillo College vans, driven by camp leaders, for all of the field trips.

This is an active, busy week so be sure to wear clothes and shoes suitable for hiking and walking, bring a hat and sunscreen, and bring plenty of snacks, water, and lunch!

Class size is limited, so Register Early!
