« back to classes page
ClassGraphic Explore contemporary and interdisciplinary processes in art, challenge conventional ideas of art-making, and be inspired by contemporary artists who revel in pushing the boundaries of creativity! Engage in a series of dynamic exercises aimed at igniting fresh ideas and developing generative processes in your work. There will be a strong emphasis on play and abstraction, though you will often work from life as a starting point. Learn about artists who employ experimental techniques, and about the importance of stretching and exploring during the creative process. With individualized feedback, you will consider ways to integrate this loose, experimental approach into your own work. The exercises encourage you to experiment with conventional and unconventional media, challenging traditional concepts and inspiring you to venture beyond your artistic comfort zones.

You will leave class with a toolkit of strategies to open and loosen your work, a series of drawings that demonstrate experimental strategies, and new knowledge of the possibilities and limits of various drawing mediums.

Exercises will include surrealist techniques and exploring the possibilities and limits of drawing materials.
Your materials fee covers basic supplies used in class. Please review the special notice listing for more details about class activities, and a list of what students need to purchase, including a list of required tools, equipment, supplies.
