Through a variety of hands-on creative projects, you will gain a solid introduction to the art of fused glass. The focus is on design considerations and learning the skills you need to implement your designs. Complete up to 4 fused glass pieces chosen from a variety of project options including plates, trays, bowls, plaques, and a wall vase. Learn about different types of fusible art glass and decorative components including frit, stringer, glass cabochons, iridescent, and dichroic glass. Learn to cut and shape cold glass using scoring and breaking tools, mosaic nippers, saws, drills, and grinders. Learn about the basic properties of glass and how temperature controls the look and structure of the final piece. Learn the basics of using fiber paper to add 3-dimensional shapes.
The materials fee covers all needed fusible glass, decorative components, use of hand and power glass cutting and shaping tools, a pair of safety goggles, use of other recommended safety equipment, consumables including kiln paper, fiber paper and release spray, and up to 4 overnight kiln firings for each piece you create.
