It’s never too early to start to develop as a leader!

You can make a difference as a youth in today’s world. Taking initiative and leading the way can help you make a difference for friends, peers, family, your community and even the world. You can also get a head-start on preparing yourself for high school, college and your career by working on your leadership.

Research shows that:
  • College admissions officers rate Leadership as one of the most important qualities they consider. Building your leadership skills gives you an advantage!
    - The Atlantic, 1/22/14
  • 95% of employers think leadership development should begin by age 21. So why not start now?
    - Center for Creative Leadership, 2012 Leadership Insights Survey
In this dynamic, strengths-based, five-day program, participants will discover and develop their inner leaders using proven methods and leadership concepts.

This class has been designed in collaboration with Kidpower, an international organization with headquarters here in Santa Cruz, dedicated to teaching safety, advocacy and empowerment skills to people of all ages and abilities. The program is inclusive, upbeat, skills-based, emotionally safe, and relevant to different ages, cultures, and life situations. The week long camp’s focus will be on creating shared visions, collaborative communication, problem solving, showing gratitude, and empathy.

Over the course of 5 days, participants will:
  • Develop a positive model of leadership
  • Understand what makes a leader
  • Identify their own values and guiding principles, and align them with actions to develop leadership skills
  • Learn social & emotional tools to help them take charge of their own emotional and physical safety
  • Practice advocating for themselves and others
  • Develop relationship skills of collaboration, advocacy, gratitude, and empathy through activity based sessions
  • Practice collaborating with others, working in teams and achieving shared goals

Notice

Please read:  Before bringing your child to camp, please read through this list. Following these steps will help us assure that your child has tons of fun while at camp, and help us keep all of our campers safe! Always send your child with a snack and a drink. Food = mood, and we want campers to be at their best! Be sure you have notified us of any behavioral or medical conditions we need to be aware of. Campers will need to be signed out every day by the individuals who have been approved by parent or legal guardian to pick them up, and are required to show a photo ID each day. Alternative transportation arrangements can be made for parents who wish to approve campers to ride their bike, take the bus, or walk home from camp, by completing the Transportation Form found HERE. This form must be completed and submitted no fewer than 5 business days prior to camp start. Please check the Summer Youth Program Parking Map, found HERE and Policy before bringing your camper on the first day. In order to protect the privacy and security of all minors on our campus, photographs by parents and family members in class are not permitted. Instructors and Extension staff often take photos and may share them with campers’ families via email once camp has concluded. Campers’ name tags will be removed for these photographs to respect and protect privacy. Please contact the Extension office directly if you do not want your child to be included in any photographs taken by our staff. Cell phones or hand held games may not be used during camps. Please let Extension know if there is anything we can do to be sure your camper is safe and has fun. We can be reached at 831-479-6331
