Build Your Own Arduino Robot, Ages 13-17

ID : 6573
« back to classes page
Using a combination of mechanical, electrical and software engineering, learn how to design, assemble and program a robot using your own Arduino microcontroller, included in the Sparkfun RedBot kit. With RedBot, an electrical engineering prototyping platform, you’ll learn about electronics and how circuits function. Plus, you will rapidly create and deploy your ideas as you bring your robotic creations to life!

This course teaches kids the basics of electrical engineering and programming as they design and build robots, and immerses students in the basics of mechanical and electrical engineering as they design, build, test, and program their robot to complete various challenges. They’ll experiment with different types of circuits while learning how robots interpret inputs from sensors and commands from their human operators.

Students will use controllers to operate lights, motors and LEDs, and then test your engineering skills in a series of competitive challenges with your classmates using the robot you’ve designed.

Showcase your robots at the end of the week and take home your Arduino kit to tinker with!

Notice

Please read:  Before bringing your child to camp, please read through this list. Following these steps will help us assure that your child has tons of fun while at camp, and help us keep all of our campers safe! Always send your child with a snack and a drink. Food = mood, and we want campers to be at their best! Be sure you have notified us of any behavioral or medical conditions we need to be aware of. Campers will need to be signed out every day by the individuals who have been approved by parent or legal guardian to pick them up, and are required to show a photo ID each day. Alternative transportation arrangements can be made for parents who wish to approve campers to ride their bike, take the bus, or walk home from camp, by completing the Transportation Form. This form must be completed and submitted no fewer than 5 business days prior to camp start. Please check the Summer Youth Program Parking Map and Policy, before bringing your camper on the first day. In order to protect the privacy and security of all minors on our campus, photographs by parents and family members in class are not permitted. Instructors and Extension staff often take photos and may share them with campers’ families via email once camp has concluded. Campers’ name tags will be removed for these photographs to respect and protect privacy. Please contact the Extension office directly if you do not want your child to be included in any photographs taken by our staff. Cell phones or hand held games may not be used during camps. Please let Extension know if there is anything we can do to be sure your camper is safe and has fun. We can be reached at 831-479-6331 http://www.cabrillo.edu/services/extension/kidslanding.html
