Description:
The two decades of the 40s and 50s are bookended by the US entry into World War II and the Explorer 6 satellite’s first picture of Earth from orbit. The “baby boom” happened, the original DIY restyling and remaking movement, “make do and mend,” was born of rationing, and of course there were the zoot suits. People listened to big band, swing, rhythm and blues, and then came rock and roll! With all that in mind, no wonder there were so many cool cocktails!
Join Liz Pollock, a Certified Mixologist, for a classic 1940s and 1950s cocktail hour and learn how to make four popular cocktails seen listed on cocktail menus and most often ordered. Liz will tell the stories behind the cocktails while demonstrating how to make a perfect drink every time. She will also show pieces from her collection of vintage cocktail menus from Santa Cruz County hotels and restaurants. Learn bartending basics, including suggestions for standard equipment and supplies. Put on some Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Chuck Berry, or whatever spins your top, and settle in for your classic cocktail hour!
Please note that the book “Lost Restaurants of Santa Cruz County” is required for the class and may be purchased as part of your registration. Books must be purchased no fewer than 10 days prior to class start to allow time for shipping. You can also find it at your favorite local bookstore.
