ClassGraphic Celebrate the beauty of botanical dye as you learn how to create a rainbow of colors from completely natural ingredients. You will learn to use tree bark and natural dye extracts, and about preparation of materials. You will color your fabric with logwood (purple), osage orange (yellow), chlorophyllin (green), and sandalwood (pink).  You will get hands-on experience with mordanting fabric, preparing a dye bath from natural elements, learn to use color modifiers such as iron powder and citric acid to manipulate your dyes into brighter or richer shades, and will practice several design techniques drawing on Shibori and tie dye patterns. The skills learned will give you the knowledge and confidence to create dyes from other botanical materials.

Your materials fee includes all of the necessary supplies and materials for class, including 4 linen bandanas. You may bring other small pieces to dye, as long as they are made of natural fibers such as cotton, linen, silk, wool, hemp, or bamboo.

Please note this class will close the Wednesday prior to the class start date. This assures that your instructor has ample time to procure all of the necessary supplies and materials for you!
