Did you know that a Megalonyx jeffersonii fossil was discovered by elementary school students right here in Santa Cruz last year, and a tooth of the Pacific Mastodon Mammut pacificus just a few years before that? You too can discover the ancient world and the creatures who lived in it: the ferocious tyrannosaurus rex, the massive megalodon shark, the soaring pterosaurs, and many, many more. Step into the shoes of a paleontologist as we learn about the most impressive creatures to ever live on planet Earth, and how we know what we know about them. Throughout the week, learn about the science of paleontology through hands-on activities developed by a dinosaur scientist. From plate tectonics and rebuilding ancient worlds, to identifying and excavating fossils, each of the activities are based on the latest science and use the same techniques and tools as scientists in the fields of geology and paleontology. Students will take home an excavated dinosaur model and other projects created throughout the week to continue their paleontological adventures!
