Weaving with Glass
ID :
14091
« back to classes page
Yes, you can weave glass! These stunning pieces look like a flat woven basket but are made with colorful glass and can be used as a glass tray or wall hanging. Learn the basics of cutting and kiln-fusing glass, while making a unique piece of woven glass art. Glass cutting experience will be helpful but is not required!
During the first week you will cut the glass warp strips for your design. Between class meetings the warp strips will be kiln fired to create the over/under spaces needed for the weft glass strips. In the second class you will cut the weft strips and assemble the woven piece. Your finished assembly will then be kiln fired to fuse the weave into a single piece of glass and then fired a final time to slump the finished weave into the shape you chose.
The materials fee covers all needed fusible art glass, use of tools and safety equipment, consumables, and multiple overnight kiln firings.
Finished projects will be available for pick-up about a week after the final class meeting to allow for kiln firing time.
Class size is limited, and classes fill quickly so register early!
For safety, please wear closed-toe shoes and avoid overly loose or flowing clothing, hair or jewelry.
