ClassGraphic The Notary exam has become more difficult recently and this class provides easy to understand, colorful visual aids and examples of basic Notary concepts. You will gain the knowledge you need to pass the exam and become an effective Notary. You will take two practice tests in class, and at the end of class you will have the ease and convenience of taking the official Secretary of State (SoS) proctored Notary exam.
Materials fee covers your seat in the SoS proctored exam, SoS approved Sourcebook, access to an optional livestream class prior to the in-person class, Seminar Guidebook, Proof of Completion, notary application, and access to Notary Public Seminars teaching site with more study guides, practice exams, easy-to-follow instructions on how to become a Notary.

Renewing notaries must take the Notary exam before their commission expires, otherwise they must take the full class prior to taking the exam.

Renewing Notaries need to bring the following:
  • Application and Proof of Completion (issued after the instruction portion of a class has concluded). Proof of Completion documents are valid for two years for first time notaries.
  • ID, one of the following, must be current or issued within the last five years:
    • U.S. state-issued driver’s license or ID card
    • Canadian or Mexican driver’s license
    • U.S. passport or a passport issued by a foreign government
    • U.S. military ID card
  • One 2 x 2” color passport-size photograph. You may not use the photo that is in your current passport! You need a separate photo that is standard passport size that is given to the Secretary of State proctor as part of your exam application.
  • $40 exam fee in the form of a personal, business, or cashier’s check made payable to the Secretary of State. This fee is for the exam, and is in addition to the class and materials fees.
  • Two #2 pencils

After registering with Cabrillo Extension, create an account here: www.notarypublicseminars.com/signup. Your registration fee includes access to NPS study guides and powerpoint presentations. Please utilize this site prior to class. It is highly recommended that you study information on the NPS teaching site prior to class as the exam has become more difficult. Must be 18+ years of age to register. Livescan fingerprints are required for renewing notaries. Serious convictions may disqualify applicants.

Please wear long pants, closed-toed shoes, and bring your favorite apron if you’d like! Students may bring their favorite kitchen knife to class, or loaner knives will be available for anyone who doesn’t have or want to bring their own.

Parking is enforced 7 days a week on the Cabrillo Campus. Please carefully read the signage in areas where you park. Daily parking permits are $4.00 and can be purchased in any of the student parking lots from parking permit dispensers. Daily permits are only good for the date of purchase. Permit dispensers only accept credit and debit cards, no cash.
