If you have ever wanted to create your own podcast or streaming radio show, or just learn the ropes and explore this exciting medium, join Michael and the Santa Cruz Voice team for this hands-on workshop at Community Television in downtown Santa Cruz that will cover:
- The basics of commercial audio podcasting and streaming, including digital audio technologies, and podcasting and streaming formats
- Defining your program concept and the target audience
- Program formatting, including the program clock and outline
- Hardware and software, including recording basics, audio hardware, and recording software
- Recording and editing, including managing the recording environment, recording an interview, and best practices
- Marketing your program, including establishing your program brand, marketing plan, and using social media strategies to grow the audience
- Program launch including digital audio architecture and distribution platforms, submitting to directories, and your steps-to-launch checklist
- Sustaining and monetizing your program, including program sponsorships
Over the course of the class you will produce and launch your own podcast or streaming radio show using free software that you will download onto your laptop, which you must bring to class each week. You will hear from guest speakers including successful hosts, sound engineers, and marketing experts. You will leave with the technical skills for using digital media recording and processing equipment, as well as the personal skills required to be both entertaining and informative. Your podcast or streaming radio show will help you build personal connections with people who share your interests, and engage and retain an audience's attention through storytelling and conversations.
