What do bats have to do with tequila, gunpowder, or rainforests? How are they vital to the health of our environment and our economy? Get answers to all of your bat questions as you learn about these magnificent mammals! You will begin at Cabrillo, learning about the world of bats with “old-school” slides, then meet at Henry Cowell State Park for an evening venturing out into the bats’ natural habitat. This two-part class will provide an opportunity to learn about these fascinating animals and to enjoy an evening walk in search of these nimble, nocturnal creatures.
Class will meet for the lecture and slide show portion of class at Cabrillo from 6:30 - 7:30, then you will head up to the park to begin your evening walk at 8:15, just in time to catch the bats at dusk and sunset! You will meet at the Henry Cowell Visitor Center for the evening portion of class. Directions to the meeting place in the park will be provided in the classroom.
This class involves walking on dirt trails at night. Please dress appropriately for the weather, wear shoes suitable for walking on gradual dirt trails, and bring at least one flashlight per participant.
