Do you dream of writing down stories from your life, but you don't know how to start? Is there an experience in your life that you'd like to write an essay or even a book about? Explore the art of memoir through conversation, reading, and a lot of writing in this generative writing experience. Each week you will meet at the beautiful Horticulture Center, high atop Cabrillo’s campus with sweeping views of Monterey Bay. You will write both in and outside of class, and Abi will use a variety of prompts and methods to get you moving. You will utilize the workshop format to share your work with the class, receive feedback from the group and your instructor, and get a sense of where to go next.
You will set individual goals for yourself during class. Some might have the goal of polishing one essay, and others may have the goal of outlining an entire book. By the end you will have a clearer sense of the range of memoir styles; many written pages; and ideas of how to continue on your own. You will also leave with a stronger connection to your own writing style and your unique writing strengths.
Please bring a notebook and something to write with. Bring your laptop or tablet if you prefer to write that way, but please bring a notebook and pen as well.
