ClassGraphic Join an experienced science illustrator at the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve for a guided field illustration experience and learn how to draw in the field and record the details of various organisms. This is a unique opportunity to explore this rare and diverse habitat and see the plant and wildlife species that depend largely on the reserve for their survival. You will learn about field sketching techniques and practice observational drawing from organisms in their environment. Learn to identify characteristics like growth habit and leaf shape of plants, as well as various shapes, color, and habits of other organisms. You will build up to a more in-depth study of a plant or flower using watercolor. We’ll have time to work on three drawings using different techniques, and gain skills using pencil, gouache, and watercolor on various papers.
All skill levels are welcome.

Your materials fee covers supplies chosen by the instructor specifically for nature illustration, which are detailed in the online class listing. You are also required to bring some basic supplies to class. Please see the online class listing for important details about what supplies you need to bring, what supplies are provided, what to wear, and a link and map for the meeting place.

There will be some walking, about three miles or so. You will be walking on well-established trails on sandy soils, and the walk is easy to moderately strenuous.
