« back to classes page

Ever wondered how those elegant hardcover books from the bookstore are created? This intensive bookbinding course covers the planning, technique, and methods to create a hardcover book, also called a “case bound” book in the bookbinding world. This more modern binding style applies the time-old book binding style of sewing folded signatures into a text block, which is then glued utilizing end papers into a separate structure known as a “case” or hardcover. You will use your creativity and intentions for your book’s use to make it uniquely yours.
You will have time to create one 8” by 5” hardcover book, and will return home with new bookbinding skills to continue your book making practice!

Your materials fee covers all of your materials and supplies, including paper, decorative paper, book cloth, book board, adhesives, and tools for stitching. Please bring your lunch and a drink.

This class is suitable for people who have taken the Introduction to Bookbinding course or have experience in bookbinding and an understanding of basic concepts of the craft. If you have experience in sewing, craft, or printmaking, and believe you have the skills to take this course, please reach out.
