Fly fishing is an art of types. Come learn the basics from a seasoned expert in one or both fly fishing classes. Learn how to string up a fly rod, get a short story on the history of fly fishing (from willow branch to beautifully engineered bamboo flyrod), learn a bit of entomology, assorted casting techniques, and learn about fly lines, leaders and tippetts! Tim will provide info on what gear is essential and how your agility will help you make a cast. Through presentations, videos, guest speakers, and hands-on skills and techniques practice, Tim will help you develop a love for the sport of fly fishing, and expand your appreciation for our unique outdoor environment.
Classes meet on Cabrillo’s campus on the weekday evening sessions, and the Saturday session will be held off-site at a local freshwater creek or river so you can put your classroom practice into action! The location for the Saturday sessions will be provided during your first evening class on campus and will be selected by Tim based on weather, current conditions, and access.
All of your required supplies and equipment, including flyrods, reels, flyline, leaders and tippett material will be provided for your use during class. If you have your own flyrods, reels, or flylines you may bring them.

Your materials fee covers the rental of your equipment, courtesy of Santa Cruz Fly Fishing Club.

Everyone is welcome, no experience required!
