Expand your casting and catching skills in this intermediate class scheduled just in time for the local steelhead season! You will dive deeper into knot tying, fly selection, learn more about aquatic insects, and discover where to go to target certain species of fish. You will explore how to problem solve assorted casting techniques, how to read the stream, and how to "match the hatch" to figure out which artificial fly mimics the natural bug. Through presentations, videos, guest speakers, and hands-on practice, Tim will help you expand your skills and techniques and further your appreciation for the sport of fly fishing.
Classes meet on Cabrillo’s campus on the weekday evening sessions, and the Saturday session will be held off-site at a local freshwater creek or river so you can put your classroom practice into action! The location for the Saturday sessions will be provided during your first evening class on campus and will be selected by Tim based on weather, current conditions, and access.

All of your required supplies and equipment, including flyrods, reels, flyline, leaders and tippett material will be provided for your use during class. If you have your own flyrods, reels, or flylines you may bring them.

Your materials fee covers the rental of your equipment, courtesy of Santa Cruz Fly Fishing Club.

This class is designed for people with some fly fishing experience, or who have taken Tim’s “Intro to the Fine Art of Fly Casting” class.
