ClassGraphic Begin at the Elkhorn Slough Reserve Conference Room for a lecture and presentation that covers the biology, species identification, and habitat for our local owls. You will learn to identify owl species by silhouette and their unique calls.
There will be a break from 4:30 to 5:00 pm between the classroom and walking portion of class, then you will head out for your evening of nocturnal searching in the wooded areas at the Elkhorn Slough Reserve, listening for their hoots and calls, and looking for their telltale glowing eyes amongst the trees!

Details about the location of the evening walk will be provided in class. Students should dress warm, wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring a flashlight. Note: flashlights will be pointed only at the ground for safe walking and will not be shone upwards; we don’t want to disturb the owls in their natural habitat!
