Learn how plants are distilled into essential oils as aromatherapist Kaysi Contreras of Eagle’s Keeper demonstrates the steam distillation process. Steam distillation is a process used to extract the aromatic compounds from botanicals such as lavender, rosemary, and eucalyptus. The resulting distillates have a wide variety of uses from aromatherapy to skin care products. The process Kaysi will demonstrate is used at Lavender Creek Co., a working lavender farm in South Monterey County.
Explore the chemistry of distillation, observe the equipment in action, and sample fresh distillates. You will take home a 2 oz bottle of the hydrosol produced from the demonstration.
