Introduction to Cold Wax

Discover the rich possibilities of cold wax and oil painting in a relaxed, supportive environment. Explore basic cold wax techniques including layering, mark-making, color mixing, and the wet-in-wet (alla prima) process. Learn to prepare substrates, apply paint using unique tools, and build textures that add depth and interest. Experiment with soft and hard edges, limited color palettes, and optional collage elements. Hands-on creative play and personal exploration will be encouraged. Intuitive painting is about letting go of expectations and trusting your process—there’s no right or wrong, just discovery. If you’re new to painting, you’ll receive clear, step-by-step guidance. If you’re experienced, you’ll have the freedom to dive deeper and expand your technique. Come ready to experiment, get messy, and spark new ideas. No prior experience with cold wax or oil paint is necessary, perfect for beginners.
You will have time to create one 9" x 12" or 11” x 14" painting on archival paper, and a series of four 5" x 7" abstract studies, showcasing techniques you have learned in class. 
Your materials fee covers all of your supplies and materials used in class including cold wax medium, oil paints, archival paper, and use of texture tools. Please bring an apron or smock.
