Field trips, road trips, scavenger hunts, and plenty of hands-on activities put your science skills to work. Develop scientific observation skills through scientific drawing. Learn random sample data gathering skills as you build and work with a quadrat (a frame used to isolate and study the distribution of an item over a large area). Learn to identify organisms and the adaptations necessary to live in local environments. Explore diverse central coast ecosystems and get a first hand look at the work being done by scientists and conservationists on five diverse field trips throughout the Monterey Bay Area.
Visit the National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center, Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, tidepools at Pigeon Point and Asilomar, and tour the Moss Landing Marine Lab and their amazing fossil museum. You will also tour the best-known fishing boat in history, Steinbeck and Ricket’s research vessel, the Western Flyer, docked in Moss Landing. You will tour the docked vessel and the Flyer’s onboard lab!

Campers travel in Cabrillo College vans, driven by camp leaders, for all of the field trips.

You will be active,  busy, and on the move all week! Please wear comfortable clothes suited for the weather, shoes that are good for hiking and walking, bring a hat and sunscreen, and bring lots of snacks, plenty of water, and your lunch!

Class size is limited, so register early!
