Have you ever wondered about the edibility of the seaweeds covering the boulders in the ocean? Come learn to identify, harvest, and prepare the massive multitude of Santa Cruz's seaweeds into culinary treats! From nori and kombu to wakame and sea palm, the delicacies of the sea are incredibly delightful to get to know and enjoy in your home kitchen.
After a presentation and “seaweed demo” in class you’ll venture out with Alexandra to a local beach where you can put your new seaweed skills to work! You will search the shallow, brisk ocean water and feel the smooth, silky seaweeds run through your hands. You will leave inspired and awakened to the incredible bounty of the sea!

Please bring non-slip shoes that can get wet on seaweed-covered ocean boulders, scissors and plastic bags for seaweed harvesting, and a backpack to hold your seaweeds. Class meets at Cabrillo first, then reconvenes to the North Coast, near Pescadero. Detailed directions to your off-site location will be provided in class.
