Creature Comforts: Handcrafted Western Barn Owl Box

These majestic white owls are more than just a pretty (heart-shaped) face. They eat gophers! Western barn owls hunt rodents of all kinds, with a nesting family typically ingesting up to 4,000 per season. However, their natural habitats have become scarce and the wrong kind of box can do more harm than good. Placing the right kind of owl box on your property, or in your neighborhood, supports conservation for declining owl populations by offering safe nesting sites to protect owl chicks from predators, and you’ll get to hear the calls they make to one another! 
You will make a 24" x 18" x 18" barn owl box to the exact specifications of the Humane Wildlife Control Association and will learn about proper installation techniques, including tips and tricks for camera installation and healthy maintenance between nesting seasons. You will also learn basic woodworking and tool skills as you assemble your box. Resources for final installation and maintenance will be provided.
Register early! Space is limited to only 8 students.  This class will close for registration 4 days prior to class to allow time for your instructor to prepare materials and supplies for you!
Bring your lunch and a drink. Please wear closed toed shoes and long pants for work in the woodshop - safety first, safety last, safety always!
