« back to classes page
ClassGraphic Learn to make beautiful pressings from seaweed and other textural plants that come from the Monterey Bay. The local beaches are full of delicate and graceful seaweed in a wide variety of shapes, colors, and textures, and the possibilities for creating artistic pressings are almost limitless! You will begin at Davenport Landing Beach to gather seaweed and other plants that come from the sea, then head back to Cabrillo to create your pressings. There will be plenty of time for demos and experimentation. Learn how to identify different types of local seaweed, which are best to use for pressing, and what supplies and materials you can use to continue your gathering and pressing at home. Your materials fee includes everything you need to make four 8"x10" scientific seaweed pressings in class, and there will be additional paper for pressing available for purchase during class.

Please bring a large, old book to class that is thick, wide and tall enough to slide 8" x 10" pressings inside. This should be a book you are willing to “sacrifice” to this project! Also bring a bag lunch, a drink, dress for the weather, and wear comfortable shoes!
