Fused Glass Pattern Bar Platter

ID : 11490
« back to classes page

Learn to create a colorful glass pattern bar of parallel rectangles fused into a rectangular block.  When sliced “across the grain”, the thin slices can then be arranged in a unique pattern and incorporated into your tray or platter. The soft curves and variety of patterns result from the colors used and how the stack is arranged. Every stack, every pattern bar is unique!

First you will review the fundamentals of fused glass and create your pattern bar stack. Your pattern bar will be fused (kiln fired) and ready to slice for the second week of the class.During the second class you will grind and slice your pattern bar and use the slices, along with other pieces of clear, transparent, or opaque glass to create your final design. Following the second class your piece will be fired twice in the kiln – first to fuse all the glass pieces together and once more to slump it into your desired shape. Finished pieces will be ready to pick up about a week after the second class. You will learn about properties of glass and fused glass, glass types, color selection, glass cutting and project assembly so you can create a beautiful, finished product. This class does involve slicing the pattern bar on a diamond-blade table saw, and that step can be performed by the instructor at your request.

Materials fee includes all needed fusible art glass, decorative components, use of hand and power glass cutting and shaping tools, use of safety equipment, consumables required for kiln firing, and up to 4 overnight kiln firings. Bring a pen and notebook to take notes. Everything else you need will be provided. Projects will be available for pick-up about a week after the second class to allow for kiln firing time.
