ClassGraphic This Secretary of State approved class will prepare you to take the exam again by reviewing all relevant Notary law. You will take the official notary exam directly following the class. Renewing Notaries are required to take the exam and be fingerprinted again.Your commission must be current to be eligible for this three-hour class.

Renewing Notaries need to bring the following:
  • Application and Proof of Completion (issued after the instruction portion of a class has concluded)
    Proof of Completion documents are valid for two years for first time notaries. 
  • ID, one of the following, must be current or issued within the last five years:
    • U.S. state-issued driver’s license or ID card
    • Canadian or Mexican driver’s license
    • U.S. passport or a passport issued by a foreign government
    • U.S. military ID card
  • 2 x 2 color passport-size photograph. You may not use the photo that is in your passport! You need a separate photo that is the standard size for a passport. This will be used by the SOS proctor as part of your application for the test.
  • $40 exam fee in the form of a check or money order made payable to the Secretary of State. This fee is for the exam, and is in addition to the class fee.
  • #2 pencil
Renewing notaries must take the exam before their commission expires, otherwise they must take the full class prior to taking the exam.

After registering with Cabrillo College, go www.notarypublicseminars.com/signup to create an account, which will allow you to get your livestream link. Your registration fee includes access to pre-seminar study guides and powerpoint presentations. It’s highly recommended that you access this information prior to class. Must be 18+ years of age to register. Live Scan fingerprints are required to become a notary. Serious convictions may disqualify applicants.

  • In alignment with public health guidelines, in-person classes may occur with modifications. Please review the In-Person COVID-19 Guidelines prior to attending class for the most up-to-date information on Extension's policies, procedures, and expectations.

    Parking is enforced 7 days a week on the Cabrillo Campus. Please carefully read the signage in areas where you park. Daily parking permits are $4.00 and can be purchased in any of the student parking lots from parking permit dispensers. Daily permits are only good for the date of purchase. Permit dispensers only accept credit and debit cards, no cash.
