ClassGraphic Kuumbwa's Summer Jazz Camp has been a destination for dedicated young musicians for over 25 years. Young musicians learn about the thrilling creativity and limitless possibility of Jazz over nine days of study, listening, and collaboration. This camp covers all aspects of jazz as an improvisational art form and will help students grow as musicians. Students will receive one-on-one and group instruction from a team of professional musicians and music educators using innovative teaching techniques in the state-of-the-art Cabrillo Performing Arts complex. The camp focuses on live performance, improvisation, skills development, harmony and theory, soloing concepts and phrasing, along with jazz history and appreciation. In addition, each day students from both grade-level groups come together for an hour of collaborative, guided musical experience. Camp concludes on the final Friday with a student performance on the world famous Kuumbwa Jazz Center stage!

View additional information about required skill levels, details about specific instruments, what campers must bring on the first day, a link to the required survey, and the final day performance schedule.

In order to participate, all students must complete the student information survey. Information is collected in this survey about musicianship and skill level that is essential, and will allow the Kuumbwa team to send additional information to campers specific to their instrument.
