ClassGraphic Purple pasta? Red bread? Yes! Spend a week in Cabrillo’s professional kitchen exploring the delicious and beautiful ways to naturally add color to food! Learn how to create natural dyes in a veritable rainbow of colors to add bright, vibrant hues to the everyday food you eat! You will learn to add color as you make delicious handmade pasta, fragrant, fluffy yeasted breads, and seasonal fresh fruit jam. You will create your rainbow of natural dyes using fresh, organic, locally sourced fruits, vegetables, spices, and even some surprising ingredients!

Each day includes demonstrations then you will work in teams to execute the skills and tasks learned that day. You will prepare each recipe while learning about teamwork, communication, organization, kitchen safety, food hygiene & science, and the importance of presentation, all while making and eating amazing colorful creations each day. You will take home samples of what you have made to share with your family, and take home a full recipe packet that includes pointers and tips about the skills and techniques learned in camp.


Students are required to wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, an apron, and a hat, a bandana, or a hair net. If a student does not have an apron, one will be provided in class.

Notice

Please read:  Students are required to wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, an apron, and a hat, a bandana, or a hair net. If a student does not have an apron, one will be provided in class.

    • Before bringing your child to camp, please read through this list. Following these steps will help us assure that your child is safe, healthy, and has tons of fun at camp!
      • Always send your child with a snack and a drink. Food = mood, and we want campers to be at their best! No food is available on campus.
      • Please be sure you have notified us of any behavioral or medical conditions we need to be aware of to help your child have a successful week at camp.
      • Campers need to be signed out every day by the individuals who have been approved by parent or legal guardian to pick them up, and are required to show a photo ID every day.
      • In order to protect the privacy and security of all minors on our campus, photographs by parents and family members in class are not permitted. Instructors and Extension staff often take photos and may share them with campers’ families via email once camp has concluded. Campers’ name tags will be removed for these photographs to respect and protect privacy. Please contact the Extension office directly if you do not want your child to be included in any photographs taken by our staff.
      • Cell phones or hand held games may not be used during camps.
      • Campers are not permitted to use the vending machines during camps.
