ClassGraphic

Summer in Central California marks the return of northern tundra-nesting water-associated birds, especially shorebirds on their southbound migration to winter areas south of Old Mexico. They pause here to ‘re-fuel’ body fat from the rich invertebrate animal life of the Elkhorn Slough. You will enjoy views of and learn about the biology of the wide spectrum of transient species.

You will observe wetland wildlife at close range aboard a comfortable, easily boardable watercraft, floating on calm inland slough water. Join two experienced naturalists to see the sea lions, harbor seals, and sea otters that inhabit the slough. There will be a significant variety of aquatic birds, and close-in views of a thriving heron and cormorant rookery shoreside. It is common to see 50 different bird species, including many northbound migrants.

This trip offers a view of the Elkhorn Slough, and the wildlife that lives there that is only visible when you are moving through the slough on a boat!

Dress for the weather, and wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
