ClassGraphic What does a bat have to do with tequila, gunpowder, or rainforests? How are they vital to the health of our environment and our economy? Get answers to these bat questions, and so many more, as you learn about these magnificent mammals! Spend an afternoon Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve learning about the world of bats with “old-school” slides, take a break for dinner, then meet back at the reserve for an evening venturing out into the bats’ natural habitat. This two-part class will provide an opportunity to learn about these fascinating animals, and to enjoy an evening walk in search of these nimble, nocturnal creatures.

Class will meet for the lecture and slide show portion of class at the Visitor Center from 2:30 to 3:30, dinner break from 3:45-7:30 (plenty of time for dinner at one of the nearby restaurants in Moss Landing), then meet back at the Visitor Center for the evening walk from 7:30 - 8:30- just in time to catch the owls at dusk and sunset!

This class involves walking on dirt trails at night. Please dress appropriately for the weather, wear shoes suitable for walking on gradual dirt trails, and bring at least one flashlight per participant.
