ClassGraphic

Create a unique piece of fiber art using a patterned textile technique inspired by the artwork of the Yoruba people from Nigeria in West Africa. Learn how to create an Adire Eleko cloth, which is a personal piece of art that represents you as the artist, and your family, through patterns and symbolic geometric designs. You will use a starch resist to create your pattern, and learn the dyeing technique of Adire Eleko as you hand paint with a vibrant indigo blue contemporary dyeing agent. Once you have completed your unique Adire Eleko cloth, you will use that to create an 18” x 18” pillow.
All materials and supplies are provided in class. Go home with your finished pillow, and a worksheet with step-by-step instructions and a material list so you can create more Adire Eleko textiles at home! Please be sure to wear comfortable clothes that can get paint and dye on them, or bring a smock.
