This workshop will introduce you to the simple, elegant linocut printmaking process. Linocut prints tend to be more expressive and the linoleum block is softer and much easier to carve and cut than many other methods of printmaking. Students will learn to plan & draw images or patterns, carve their “relief“ image into the linoleum block, and finally hand print your design using simple tools! This is a great way to start experimenting with the beautiful medium of printmaking. You can use linocuts for original art work, greeting cards, t-shirts and so much more!
Students will have time to create two bodies of work during this workshop, and the imagery will be determined by you. You may bring images to use, create them in class, or there will be basic images and patterns to choose from in class. On the last day students will be part of a class print exchange. You will leave this workshop with a collection of your own prints, an exchange portfolio, and the knowledge needed to continue making prints in the convenience of your own home!
Please see the Class Resources web page for a list of required materials students must bring, as well as other important info about this class.
