Design and Print Your Own 3D Models, Ages 13-17

ID : 6574
« back to classes page
Join us in the all-new Cabrillo Makerspace to discover 3D printing and how 3D printing is changing our future. We’ll follow the same processes an industrial designer goes through to create a product: Sketch your ideas out on paper, turn your sketch into a 3D model in CAD programs on the computer, and then bring your idea to life by 3D printing your 3D model. We’ll also learn the “Design Thinking” process taught by Stanford University.

This camp prepares students with the skills they will need working in a professional 3D modeling, animation, and design environment. Our 3D Printing & Product Design course gives students a look into the process of an industrial designer as they create 3D models using CAD software. Students will turn their ideas into reality and rapidly prototype their designs using an Ultimaker 3D printer. By the end of the week, students will understand the engineering and design process as well as discover how 3D printing is changing our future.

In partnership with Ultimaker, and the Cabrillo College Makerspace, we are proud to offer our students access to the highest rated prosumer 3D printer to use throughout the course, as well as the digital fabrication tools and equipment in the Makerspace.

Please note students need to bring a lunch, a drink, and a snack, and wear closed toed shoes and long pants.

Campers will need to be signed out every day by the individuals who have been approved by parent or legal guardian to pick them up, and are required to show a photo ID each day. Alternative transportation arrangements can be made for parents who wish to approve campers to ride their bike, take the bus, or walk home from camp, by completing the Transportation Form.. This form must be completed and submitted no fewer than 5 business days prior to camp start. Please check the Summer Youth Program Parking Map and Policy before bringing your camper on the first day. In order to protect the privacy and security of all minors on our campus, photographs by parents and family members in class are not permitted. Instructors and Extension staff often take photos and may share them with campers’ families via email once camp has concluded. Campers’ name tags will be removed for these photographs to respect and protect privacy. Please contact the Extension office directly if you do not want your child to be included in any photographs taken by our staff. Cell phones or hand held games may not be used during camps.
